This watercolor of a burn plant (Aloe vera) is part of the Simple Succulent series of succulent watercolors.
In recent years, succulents have had a growth in popularity. Maybe it is their hard-to-kill nature allowing us the joy of nurturing life without the burden of constant care. It could also be their range of styles from bright soft growths to muted rough structures and versatility in presentation from a cute teacup to a wall hanging allowing us to match our succulent decor to our personality. This show is a scientific illustrator’s exploration into the personality of a few charming characters with the medium seemingly designed for succulents–watercolor. As Marshall McLuhan said “the medium is the message”. Watercolors’ ability to flow from soft to hard in a single stroke mimics the simple beauty of succulents.
